Job description

A five-line update for remote work
A practical writing exercise for your job search: explain a task so someone can understand it while you are offline.
GitLab’s weekly update template covers progress, next steps and blockers. Try this expanded version:
Done: What changed?
Proof: Where can someone see the result?
Next: What will you do next, and when?
Blocked: What is preventing progress? Write “none” if nothing is blocked.
Ask: Who needs to answer which question, by when? Include a time zone.
Fictional example — preparing a customer FAQ
Done: Drafted the refund section.
Proof: FAQ draft, section 3.
Next: Add account-access answers by Tuesday, 14:00 UTC.
Blocked: Refund wording needs approval.
Ask: Could the support lead confirm the wording by Monday, 12:00 UTC?
Try it with a real task or a clearly labelled fictional scenario. If you share it as a work sample, remove confidential details and use only links you have permission to share.
Explore roles with JobRadar. Save this template and share it with someone preparing for remote work.
