Job description
5 questions to ask in a remote job interview
“Do you have any questions for us?”
Use this moment to understand how the team actually works. Pick two or three questions that matter most to you.
1. “What would a successful first 90 days look like?”
Ask for specific outcomes, who sets priorities and how progress will be reviewed.
2. “When someone gets blocked, how do they get help?”
Ask for a recent example. Who can you turn to, and what happens if that person is offline?
3. “Which meetings would I attend in a typical week?”
Clarify recurring calls, expected availability and how the team handles different time zones.
4. “How do important decisions reach people who weren’t in the meeting?”
Ask where decisions are documented and how you would find the context you need.
5. “What does onboarding look like for someone joining remotely?”
Who helps you get started? What training, documentation and check-ins are available?
A useful follow-up to any answer:
“Could you walk me through a recent example?”
You’re choosing a team and a working routine as well as a job title.
Save this for your next interview.
