If your video interview freezes, what do you do?
Prepare a small backup plan before the call. Try this checklist:
1. Keep the essentials together
Save the original meeting link, interview time and recruiter’s contact details. Follow any backup instructions in the invitation.
2. Rehearse the controls
Test your microphone and practise joining, muting and screen sharing in the software you will use.
3. Say what went wrong
If the call is still connected, explain the issue. Ask for a question to be repeated if you missed it.
Copy-and-adapt message if you disconnect:
“Hi [Name], I lost the connection during our interview for [Role]. I’m trying to rejoin through the original link. If we cannot reconnect, would you prefer to continue by phone or reschedule the remaining conversation?”
Use the contact route the recruiter provided. Agree the next step with them.
